Why Cali?

In Sept of 2009, Corey and Liz decided it was time to meet the last (but not least) sister of Liz (Karen). She lives in Portland, Oregon. Well it just so happened that they were falling in love with wine, and he had a good friend (Chris), both in California. Why not fly into Portland, OR to visit Karen and the Fengers, drive to Napa for some wine, then continue to San Diego to visit Chris? After a few days exploring Portland they were on their way to Napa and San Diego! Over twenty hours later they had been down highway one, through redwood forests, seen adorable sea lions, joined a Napa Valley wine club, and visited with some friends. Along the way they stumbled upon a little city on the coast called Carmel-by-the-Sea. As cute as the little town was, they had to keep moving at the time.
A year later, Corey had planned an entire week-long vacation surrounding this magical place Carmel-by-the-Sea. It is where he asked Liz to marry him, both falling even more in love with the area (including Monterey). It was a clear YES! They wanted to share the magic of California’s Central Coast with their friends and family by having the ceremony at Carmel Mission Basilica followed by an outdoor reception at the Monterey Memory Gardens. They hope you can enjoy the scenery as much as they do =)
Who is Team Awesome?
When these two found each other, Team Awesome was formed! Corey & Liz enjoy running, rock climbing, biking, wine tasting, being outdoors, and hanging out with family and friends. After all, if it wasn't for the support and hard work of their family and friends (thank you Kramer!) they may still be searching for each other. More on Team Awesome
Ceremony / Reception
The beautiful Carmel Mission was founded in 1771. It has been gathering with faithful people who value tradition and use Scripture to guide them since then. The Church was given the rank of Basilica in 1961 by Pope John XXll. More on the Wedding
Travel Tips
From our own experience we have noticed that flying into San Francisco can be hectic. If you plan on visiting that area anyway, by all means choose it! San Jose is not a far drive either to Monterey/Carmel area. It is also a little more organized. You could fly right into Monterey, however tickets tend to be significantly higher (~$200 more/ticket). Beautiful Cali Weather!
Although it's sunny in California, there is no humidity like in the midwest! When the sun goes down, it does tend to get quite chilly. Don't give away that you're a tourist....bring a jacket or sweater =) More on Cali Weather
